The internet.
The largest knowledge base
in history. Google.
We only want it to do
one thing.
Answer my question!
Yes, searching is a skill.
By searching, we learn
about ourselves and the people around us.

"Google is not the only Search Engine Guy in town" says René Sloos, president of CompuConsult Inc." There's Yahoo, MSN, Dogpile, AltaVista and many others - but it comes with such an astounding set of tools, that it is the engine of choice for many of us. Today, people know the desired information is out there. We'd like to share our knowledge with you because finding it fast can make all the difference to your business!

In seconds, you'll find stuff
other people can't...

TIP 1. Wow, an exact match!
If you're looking for an exact match, try a phrase search. When you enclose your search query in "quotation marks", you will get results for the exact terms you entered, in the order you entered them. For example, [ "used cars calgary" ] will provide a better result than [ used cars calgary ].

TIP 2. What's that again?
You've been there... you forgot, or simply don't know the exact phrase. Now you can use an asterisk (*) as a 'wildcard'. Example: "Oh Canada **** land" finds "Oh Canada my home and native land." I've even used this strategy to find email addresses!

TIP 3. Find relevant web sites.
Use the 'tilde character' [~] in front of a search term and Google will retrieve 'word-matches' as well as synonyms. Searching for [~conservative] will yield the Liberal Party of Canada-, as well as the Conservative Party of Canada homepage. Do NOT leave a space between the tilde and the search term.

TIP 4. Exclude words.
Imagine, you want to know more about 'plasma' in the cosmos. (O.K. I said 'imagine'!) When typing in [plasma] you will be forced to wade through scores of sites referring to plasma televisions. The solution: type a hyphen in front of the unwanted word (in this case 'television') and it will eliminate all the 'plasma television web sites! It should look like this: [plasma -television].

TIP 5. Pictures at your fingertips.
You can find beautiful pictures to spice up a Word-document, your Powerpoint presentation, or your kids' school project. Go to Google's homepage, click on 'images', fill in what you're looking for and... voila, pick out your favourite pics! Note: There might be copyright on some pictures.

TIP 6. Find the exact word -definition.
Yes, you can also look that up in your dictionary. But I bet ya: not that fast! First type "define:" then your search word. Google will show definitions, synonyms and many links for more information.

TIP 7. Know the Google rules.

René Sloos: Four billion online search queries are made by North Americans each month! Most unsuccessful searches are either so specific that the searcher thinks he/she will never find the desired information, or so broad that the searcher thinks he/she doesn’t know enough to narrow the search down properly. Would you like more search success? Apply these 'rules' first:

A.) Start with what’s most
important to you.

B.) Eliminate duplication

C.) Eliminate "the" "a"
"an" and "and"

D.) Express yourself
in exact form

E.) Rotate words

Have fun searching!

“ Excellent Investment Opportunity ”

Circumpacific Energy Corp. is a junior exploration company engaged in the development of petroleum and natural gas properties in Western Canada. The Company is managed by a very experienced and diversified board of directors.
The corporate strategy is to increase production and reserves through exploration and development of its properties, as well by entering into joint venture and farm-in arrangements to achieve growth objectives. In addition, the Company’s growth objectives will be met through strategic mergers and/or investments in oil and gas production, exploration and development.

The Company’s land position in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan is 15,919 net acres. Development opportunities exist on Company lands, with drilling and tie-in opportunities currently being conducted at Kakwa and Colgate.

During the current fiscal period (July 1 to December 31, 2005) the Company averaged 197 barrels of oil equivalent per day. This production should increase during the remainder of the fiscal period as more new wells are brought on stream.

All of the current capital expenditures at Kakwa and Colgate are being funded from cash flow. It is anticipated that future capital costs for these areas will continue to be funded by cash flow. The Company has no bank line of credit, or bank debit.

Access to information and entertainment. Credit and financial services. Products from every corner of the world. The possibilities are greater than earlier generations could ever have imagined. Thanks to the Internet, you can order books, clothes, or appliances online; reserve a hotel room across the ocean; download music and games; check your bank balance 24 hours a day, or access your workplace from thousands of miles away.

The flip-side, however, is that the Internet — and the anonymity it affords — also can give online scammers, hackers, and identity thieves access to your computer, personal information, finances, etc.

Handy features in 'Word' can save you time and money.

Create and design your company's letterhead, choosing from an array of free clip art.
One thing every business needs is official letterhead. You don't have to buy it. If you know the design you want, you can create it in Microsoft Word and save it as a template to use time after time. learn more

Send the same letter to many people without addressing each separately.
Sometimes you need to make an advertising pitch to all of your customers. Or you want to announce a change in your staff. This can seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be. Word's Mail Merge tool simplifies things greatly.

Add a watermark to a document so everyone knows that it is a draft.
If you are circulating a proposal to your staff, you don't want it mistaken for the finished product. A good way to avoid that is a watermark that says "Draft," "Confidential," "Sample" or anything else you'd like. learn more

Keep an eye on changes that people are making to documents.
When a sales plan or another document is returned to you, it is sometimes difficult to see changes made by others. Word has a simple way to show them to you.

More Profitable
Adding a server to your business can help curb costs!

You may already know how a server can benefit your business. How it provides a central place to store and access business data. How it allows you to easily create a backup copy of all your information. And how it enables you to set up security measures to thwart attacks over the Internet.

By adding a server to your office, you can also use special programs that help you make money.

For instance, you can run sophisticated customer relationship management programs (CRM) on Windows Small Business Server 2003. These programs help you keep track of customer sales and support relationships. You can also install and run more sophisticated accounting software on you server.
